The Rotary Del Sol Foundation, Inc., (RDSF) organized in 1997, is a New Mexico non-profit corporation and is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The RDSF was created to assist the Del Sol Club in charitable fund-raising, receive charitable contributions from Club members as well as the community at large and make donations in furtherance of its charitable mission to worthy community charitable beneficiaries.

The RDSF exists as a charitable investment affiliated organization of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque Del Sol under a Joint Policy Statement which was carefully conceived in 1998 to delineate the roles and promote cooperative, harmonious operation of the two organizations.

The RDSF is managed by a Board of Directors composed of nine (9) persons who are members of Rotary Club of Albuquerque Del Sol. The persons who are its officers and directors for the current 2017-2018 Rotary Year  appear at the end of this Section.

In 1997, Don Kaufman, the first President of the Del Sol Club and his wife Bonnie, made a generous donation of $10,000 to the Foundation, known as the Kaufman Scholarship Fund, to fund awards of scholarships to graduating seniors at Valley High School in Albuquerque from the interest earnings of such Fund. The Kaufmans’ donation was primarily derived from earnings they generated from operation of the snack bar at VHS. Since inception, the RDSF has given $5,000 in scholarships.

The late Mary Martin, a member of our Club who passed away suddenly in 1999, left a generous bequest to the RDSF  designated for the Permanent Fund. In Mary’s name, the RDSF has since created a program for giving known as the Mary Martin Fellowship. Del Sol Club members are encouraged to make annual gifts to the Foundation in memory of Mary Martin.

In October 2000, the Del Sol Club Board passed a resolution which established a long-term goal of the Foundation known as the “2020 Vision”, which is to grow the Permanent Fund of the RDSF, through annual Mary Martin Fellowship contributions, Club fund-raising activities and sound investment practices to $1 million by the year 2020. Earnings of the Permanent Fund are designated to be used for New Mexico childrens’ charities in perpetuity.

The RDSF’s Board of Directors engages in oversight of its investment accounts in accordance with a detailed Investment Policy adopted by Resolution of the Foundation Board with the assistance of an Investment Committee composed of three members of the Foundation Board acting in consultation with an outside investment adviser that is under contract with the RDSF.  Since 2001, the RDSF has received income of $744,856 and donated $371,553 to 22 children's charities.

The RDSF supports the Mary Martin Fellowship (MMF) Program and encourages club members to contribute to this program.
The awards for contributions to the MMF program, as set forth in the 2020 Plan follow:

  • $250 contribution - Mary Martin Fellowship

  • $1,000 contributions - Bear Award when cumulative contributions reach $1,000

A Joint Planned Giving Resolution was passed by the RDSF Board in August 2011, which will provide for an amended and supplemented Planned Giving Program of the Del Sol Club to better allow for charitable donations for which the RDSF does not have the resources or expertise to provide management oversight (real estate, non-cash items and gifts with special requirements.)
