On September 19, at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Darin Sand, Vice President, Goodman Realty spoke to the Club updating the members on the conversion of the Winrock Shopping Center into the Winrock"Town Center" which will be more of an "experience" in addition to shopping. The Mall has been essentially vacant since 2008 with the exception of a few stores.
The Winrock Town Center will have a 2 acre Community park, the relocated offices of New Mexico Orthopedics, a teaching kitchen and a wellness center. It will have a Dillard's store, 17 restaurants and a number of boutique shops.
Also consistent with its "mixed use environment" there will be a water feature using recycled water from the center and an urban farm where pomegranates will be raised. President Dave Simon, City of Albuquerque Director of Parks and Recreation said the City of Albuquerque is very excited about this project.
At last Thursday's meeting members Christine Glidden and Davis Riordan received their Blue Badges. Congrats to both of them for a job well done.
On September 10, the RDS Board met at Jimmy's Cafe. The Board voted to adopt a new Resolution dealing with the split of proceeds from the Governors Charity Ball for New Mexico Children.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Brewlab 101, the Satellite meeting members are sponsoring "Paint for Polio". This is an exciting project to raise money for Polio Plus and learn about painting at the same time. If you have not signed up there is still time. Even if you don't sign up you may still come to the event, sign up and pay at the door on Wednesday evening. If you don't want to paint please just show up, make a $20.00 donation and buy a Paint for Polio Glass and have a beer with Rotarians and guests. Brewlab 101 is donating $1 per glass sold to the effort.
On Thursday, September 26, at Meals on Wheels Cafe the Regular Club Meeting will feature Vicki Turpen as the speaker discussing her new book on Climate Change. This will be an opportunity for Del Sol Rotarians to hear one of our own discuss a vital issue of our time.
Other upcoming events are Punkin Chunkin with the Estancia Rotary Club in Estancia on October 19, 2019 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM and the Jamie Tinnin Memorial Clay Shootout at Tinnin Hunt Club on October 26.
Ron Hensley says that there are still openings for teams or individual shooters for the Clay shoot and of course sponsors are always welcome.
Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
