Club Happenings

1.  Club Meeting Updates

This past Thursday, our very special guest presenter was Larry Kenemore, member of the Rotary Club of Siloam Springs, Arkansas (Rotary District 6110), and the Rotary Action Group for Addiction Prevention.  Larry spoke to us about Project SMART (School Education, Medicine and Drug Disposal, Awareness, Recovery, and Treatment) addressing the opioid crisis and polluted drinking water.  Several Club members are interested in being part of Project SMART, and we are following up with Larry on what our next steps will be.  Stay tuned for more information on this!

This Thursday, our special guest presenter will be Julius Ntende, Rotarian with the Namugongo Kampala Club in Uganda, and his topic will be:  All that can be done across the world on behalf of communities without a voice...May all our visions exceed the four-way test!

We are also having a Club Board Meeting this Wednesday at 7:00am (by zoom) and all Club Members are welcome to attend as our agenda will include a discussion and vote on next steps regarding the Governors Charity Ball or an alternative fund-raiser.  The Zoom login info is in the event calendar on our Club website.

2. Don Chalmers Memorial Grant applications due by February 29th!

There are only a couple of weeks left to submit applications for the next round of Don Chalmers Memorial Grants.  The information about the grant applications is available on our Club website home page.  Please consider whom you would nominate (including previous Governors Charity Ball nominated charities) and submit an application so we can have ample candidates when we start our vetting process.

3.  "Packathon" Service Project for Haiti

At this past week's Central Area Presidents' Council meeting, we were informed about this upcoming event, which is for all of our local Rotary Clubs to participate.  If you are interested in registering or donating, please open the QR code above or go to https://www.classy.org/event/albuquerque-feed-milot-haiti-packathon/e460114

Please let Club Service Projects Chair, Brent Melville, know if you plan to attend so we can track it as part of our service hours and # of service projects per year goal.

4.  Vortex Theatre upcoming play (free tickets!)

The Vortex Theatre (one of the Don Chalmers Memeorial Grant Recipients) contacted our Club and offered our club members and families complimentary tickets to any Thursday night performance (February 9, 16 or 23 at 7:30pm) of their new play Lava which opens on February 9th as a thank you for our help in launching their literacy theater program - Wrinkle Writing.

If you would like to come, please contact Club Secretary Meredith (meredith@mereditheisenberg.com).  Let Meredith know how many tickets you would like and which night and she will have them leave your tickets for you at the door.

If enough people want to go on a particular Thursday, maybe we can arrange to meet for dinner beforehand.

5.  Our next "Retro" Meeting is being rescheduled likely to March 30th

Our next "Retro" meeting, which was originally scheduled for March 2nd, will likely be rescheduled to later in March, likely March 30th.  Shriley Anderson and Steve Reynolds have agreed to host.  More information on the Retro meeting will be coming in the next few weeks.
