Club Happenings

1.  Club Meeting Updates

Our very special guest presenter at our Club Meeting this past Thursday was Will Martinez, Market President and Publisher of the excellent Albuquerque Business First! Thank you, Will, for your significant support of the Albuquerque business community!
This coming week, our guest presenter for Tuesday's Twilight Meeting at Nexus Brewery will be Ray Nelson, past Scoutmaster with our chartered Boy Scout Troop 285!  We'll also continue our planning for July's Bike Fund-raiser (more on the fund-raiser below).  And, at our Thursday Breakfast meeting, our speaker will be our very own illustrious Club Vice-President, Aprilyn Chavez Geissler!

2. Bike Fund-Raiser Update

This past Wednesday, the Club Board met to clarify and subsequently vote on the Bike Fund-raiser to be held in July.  Christine Glidden, Kit Turpen, and our Assistant Governor, Mark Goodman, also attended.  After a very helpful, informative discussion, the motion below was approved by the Board:
"Encourage volunteers from the club to ride bikes and volunteer with the planning and execution of the event.  Encourage volunteers from the club to support sponsorship efforts for the women of Nepal. Encourage volunteers to donate funds in support of the women of Nepal. Encourage the RDS Fund Development Chair to work with the Bike Ride Project to maximize fundraising efforts."
If you have any questions about the meeting or about the fund-raiser, please contact President Jeff at 1-505-400-1403 or  Thanks to the Board, to Christine, and to everyone who has been and will continue to be involved in this very important international service project!

3.  Project SMART "Train the Trainer" for Naloxone Class!

For the first step in our new Project SMART (School Education, Medicine and Drug Disposal, Awareness, Recovery, and Treatment) initiative, our Project SMART team (Jeff, Davis, Dean, Kit, and Dan) is coordinating a "Train the Trainer" Naloxone class for 20 to 25 people (they do not need to be Rotarians). Naloxone is an opioid antagonist meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of opioids such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone.  We will be providing this Naloxone Training using the newest and latest Naloxone from Kloxxado that is more effective and works faster than other products.  If you are interested in being one of our trainers for this roll-out, please contact President Jeff at 1-505-400-1403 or

6. Rotary Fellowships and Rotary Action Groups

Besides all the great activities we do at the Club level, members have the opportunity to join Rotary Fellowships and Rotary Action Groups.  The Fellowships tend to be more social in nature (Golf, Wine, etc.), while the action groups are aligned with Rotary's Areas of Focus and the work we do through the Rotary Foundation (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; Polio Survivors, etc.).  Please consider joining one or more of these groups to add to your Rotary experience:
