Our annual Rice and Beans drive goes to the end of May. Our goal is $2,000; we are currently at $1,500.

RYLA is coming up. There are 87 students committed to RYLA with 3 sponsored by our club.

RYLA needs counselors. If you are interested, contact Jennifer or David.

We have two club members who have committed to be RYLA counselors and one who will be a guest speaker.

Greg mentioned the possibility of our club linking up with one of the 22 Rotary clubs in the Ukraine.

May was Davis Riordan's Rotary Anniversary month. Congrats to Davis.

The NM Ramps project is a spin-off of the Texas Ramp project. To date, Texas has built 30,00 ramps (about 60 a week).

Mike mentioned Ameritas status. If your age plus years in Rotary equals or exceeds 85, you are eligible for Ameritas status. This means your dues would reduce from $165 to $65. If interested, contact Mike.

Our speaker couldn't make it so Meredith asked each table to identify fun things we do, potential speakers, potential community service and fundraising ideas. Fun thing ideas were Paint for Polio, Mystery trips, escape rooms, dinner detective, freeloaders, zoo concerts, paint parties, bowling and baseball games, and meet and greets. Potential speaker ideas were the Kirtland Base Commander, UNM Athletic Director, Archbishop Wester, Coaches at all levels, someone from the VLA, Sandia Labs, Chamber of Commeraces, Bagel Lady, Weck's new director, and Marilyn Beck. Community services ideas were continue Ronald McDonald House guest chef program, Road Runner Food Bank, projects with non-Rotary clubs and median cleanups, Potential fundraisers were continuing the Balloon Festival Merchandise Tent, casino night, golf tournaments, raffles, and pickle ball tournaments

There are two seats are coming available for the new Rotary year on the Del Sol Foundation board beginning July 1st. The incumbents are seeking reelection. If any other club member is interested in running for either seat, they can self-nominate or someone else can nominate them. In either case, new nominees would need to follow the process outlined below and meet the dates specified.

Board Member Nominations and Elections Processes

Approved May 15, 2024 - Modified May 19,2025

1. The Foundation Board nominates incumbents who wish to serve another term at the May board meeting each year.

2. Announcement of the Rotary del Sol Foundaton Annual Meeting is placed in the Club Bulletin before the end of May.The contents of the announcement will include the following:

a.Date of the annual meeting (usually the last Thursday in the month of June.

b.List of incumbent foundation board members who wish to serve another three-year term.

c. A member Rotarian can be nominated by a fellow club member or self-nominated by submitting a short bio (75 words or less) at least two weeks prior to the annual meeting in June. The bio should be sent to the Bulletin editor and the Club Secretary.

3. All bios of all nominees will be posted within an Excel spreadsheet linked to the Members Only section of the Club website immediately after the deadline for bio submittals (refer to 2(c) above) unless there are only enough nominees to fill the number of vacancies.

4. Member Rotarians will be allowed to vote on-line through the Members Only section of the website.Voting will cease on midnight of the Monday before the Annual Meeting in the month of June.

5. New board members, and terms of office, will be announced at the Foundation Annual Meeting, or no later than the last Thursday of June each year in the Club Bulletin.

31 - RECREATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS

From stamp collecting to wine appreciation, the hobbies of Rotarians are as diverse as the membership itself. Yet, among the more than one million Rotarians worldwide, an amateur-radio enthusiast or a chess player is bound to find others who share the same passions. But Recreational Fellowship members share more than just their common interest in sport diving or Esperanto; they share an interest in fellowship and service and in promoting world understanding. As such, it's no wonder that the International Skiing Fellowship of Rotarians donates the profits from ski events to The Rotary Foundation or that the Flying Rotarians help ferry medical personnel and supplies.

One has only to look at the types of Vocational Fellowships to recognize how they differ from their recreational counterparts. With Rotarians united by their shared professional interest in such fields as Hospital Administration and Finance/Banking, it's obvious that Vocational Service is as important a concern as international fellowship to the members of these groups. Members exchange technical information and seek opportunities to employ their expertise in service not just to their own communities and countries, but to their professions as well. For example, the Ophthalmology International Vocational Fellowship organized a professional seminar on the subject of eye surgery in developing countries.
