Last Weeks meeting featured Tony Pino and Evan Cole as Rotarians of the Day. They described their various life experiences. Tony told us how his family has been in the Santa Fe-Albuquerque area since the 1600's. Evan related some of his experiences in various government roles. They then spoke on the recent Boys RYLA Camp at Manzano Mountain Retreat which was from July 15-July 21, 2018. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Tony and Evan were both Camp Counselors. The boys who attend are all exceptional kids from area high schools throughout District 5520. The Camp emphasizes developing Male Role Model and Leadership Skills. There are a variety of activities during the week including sports events. 80 Boys attended this year. The Girls RYLA Camp is the week after the Boys Camp This weeks Satellite Meeting held at Nexus Brewery will concentrate on developing various service projects for the year. Service Chair Chris Van Dyck will be there and will lead the meeting with Satellite Co-chairs Meredith Eisenberg and Kelli Muwumba. Meeting starts at 5:15 PM on Monday, August 6, 2018. August 9, Thursday Regular Meeting at 7:00AM at Meals on Wheels Cafe will feature Charles La Fond as speaker. Charles LaFond is the Advancement Director for Heading Home, a social profit agency in Albuquerque seeking to make homelessness rare, short-lived and non-recurring. An author of four books and a Master Potter of 35 years, Charles moved to Albuquerque because he felt his passion for transforming homelessness and his skills in fundraising could be of best use here. He lives in the South Valley on an apple, peace and alfalfa farm with his black Lab “Kai” where he writes and makes pottery for local and national galleries. August 13 at 5:30 at Nexus Brewery is the next meeting of the Governors Ball Committee for 2019. All members are invited to come and see where their their skills and abilities can be used to make this a great Governors Ball.
