This Week in Rotary - October 8, 2017
UPDATE CENTRAL
  • Last week, President Michael Barrio held his first Club Assembly. Michael reiterated that his focus for the 2017-2018 RDS year was on engaging existing membership with the ultimate goal of increasing community contribution and building our foundation fund. His main conversation points were streamlining club procedures for efficiency, conceptualizing new strategies for attracting membership, revitalizing our fundraising efforts, and utilizing the Satellite group to its' fullest potential. The club further had an opportunity to discuss the 2018 Annual Governors' Ball, details on our recently contracted event producer, Micaela Brown of Inspire People Media, and the theme for this year's ball - FIRE & ICE! All in all, it was an informative and collaborative discussion!
  • Speaking of Governor's Ball, thanks to all who signed up for our two committees! We can't make it a successful event without all of us! Thanks so much! We'll also be following up, individually, with anyone not currently signed up. Keep a look out in your inboxes, text messages, and keep an ear out for that phone! We're coming for ya!
  • This week, we'll hear from Toya Kaplan from Freedom House New Mexico. Freedom House New Mexico is dedicated to preventing the sexual exploitation of women in New Mexico. They offer a program that helps sexually exploited women leave their pasts behind and step into a brighter future.
  • Don't forget to join us for our Pints for Polio event on October 24th at Rio Bravo Brewing Company! Join us at 5:30 for brews, mingling, and wiping out polio!! $10 gets you a free pint glass and a front row seat for the Rotary Wranglers!! See you there!
  • We're also happy to report that the East Mountain High School Interact Club is now OFFICIALLY up and running!!! Thanks to President Michael Barrio, DG Elect Jeff Weinrach, and New Generations Chair Ryan Schaffer for making it out to East Mountain High and welcoming them to the Rotary family!
  • It's that time of year! Time to consider the opportunity to tutor children with our friends at Horizons! This opportunity is to visit with children in grades 1 - 6 to assist with homework or read books. We need another 5 tutors to make this initiative successful and really kick it off to a good start! Tutoring begins on October 3rd at EXPLORA, every Tuesday from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. Please email Dennis Shaulis at Horizons to sign up at dshaulis@horizonsalbuquerque.org
  • Registration for our first EVER Fall Assembly is now open! This event is geared to Rotarians who want to learn more about Rotary by engaging with Rotarians from other clubs. It's the answer to, "What comes after Rio Grande Academy?" For more information and to register, click here!
  • Our friends at Desert Forge have requested help selling their crop of green chiles! They will be roasting, bagging, and selling the chiles on Saturday mornings (thruNovember 4th) at the Grower's Market on 8th & Central from 7:30am - 12:30pm. If you're interested in joining the fun, please email Tina Reames at tmreames@cherryseereames.com with the Metro Club and let her know when you're available!!
