This week in Rotary
On July 30, 2020 at the Satellite Meeting via ZOOM, Tim Parker was the guest speaker discussing Human Trafficking. Tim works with several groups in New Mexico trying to fight this terrible human problem., including the NM Attorney General.Tim said New Mexico has the 9th highest incidents of Human Trafficking in the United States.  Those are official stats but he said the problem is much worse. He described some of the lives of young people who have been harmed by this awful trade.  
 
Tim said that anytime there is an Interstate Highway with long haul freight traffic, there is a vehicle for Human Trafficking. and New Mexico has several of those routes.
 
Tim outlined the risk factors for Trafficking and told us some things we can do to prevent it.
 
 
Tim said that if we observe suspected trafficking we should:
Tim said that some Rotary Clubs are actively working to combat trafficking and that  there is a Rotary Eclub that works on this problem.
 
At the meeting it was announced that Chris Glidden and Dave Simon applied for a grant from the Covid-19 Disaster Fund and it was accepted and Del Sol was awarded a $25,000 grant to assist the New Mexico Pueblos  effected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.  This is the first such grant in New Mexico. Congrats to Chris and Dave.  Good Job!!!
 
Lance Ellis announced that the Albuquerque Medians Project will start up again soon.
 
President Elect Brad Ekhoff announced that Del Sol has received a District Grant  of $3750 for the Ramps Project which will go on every month of the Rotary year.
 
Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 7:00AM the RDS Board will hold its Regular Meeting via ZOOM. Red Badge members or any other member desiring to attend should email Ed Robertson for the link to sign on.  Discussion will focus on plans for this Rotary year.
 
Thursday, July 23 at 7:00AM the Morning Meeting for all Del Sol Rotarians will commence via ZOOM.  Ed Robertson will send a link and invitation  to all members. We were hoping to have another hybrid meeting like we did on July 9 but that is not possible because of the Governors latest health order stopping in person restaurant dining.  
 
Speaker will be Richard Anklam, President/Executive Director of NM Tax Research Institute.  He will discuss :"Current Budget Situation in New Mexico."  He will suggest what we may expect going forward this year. Please grab your morning coffee and sign on to hear Richard.
