This week in Rotary
On February 27, 2020 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Doug Rowley  of the New Mexico Ramp Project spoke about the need for ramps for disabled people in New Mexico.  Doug, who is a retired physician who specialized in obstetrics-gynecology, now works with the New Mexico Ramp project.  He first learned about this project when he was involved with the Texas Ramp project.  New Mexico's project is an offshoot of the Texas one.

Doug told us that they are working in 8 Counties in New Mexico.  There is a tremendous need for ramps.  Members were surprised to learn that there is a need for 70,000 ramps in New Mexico.  The work to build the ramps is done by volunteers.  Money that the project collects goes to buy materials. It costs on average $5740 for materials for a ramp.

Del Sol Rotarians enjoying their new venue at Jimmy's Cafe on Jefferson Street in Albuquerque.

The Del Sol Satellite Group will be meeting tomorrow (Monday) at  its regular time and location (5:30 to 6:30 at the Nexus Brewery on the I-25 Frontage Road just north of Montgomery).

The  guest speaker will be Dr. Siu G. Wong, President of the Local Lodge of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, discussing the history of Asian Americans settling in New Mexico in the late 1800's.

On March 5 the Regular Thursday breakfast meeting at Jimmy's Cafe will feature Jonathan Chamblin, Executive Director of the Public School Facilities Authority.  He will speak on "Bringing Equity and Uniformity to Public School Capital Funding in New Mexico" As we all know education is a major concern in New Mexico so this should be an interesting and timely presentation.

Tables are going fast for Governors Ball.  Don't be left out. Right now go onto the nmgovernorsball.org website and register for a table or however many tickets you need.  Please provide the names, email addresses and phone numbers of your guests.  You can be billed later.  Remember this year as part of our joint agreement with Rotary of Albuquerque checks will go to Albuquerque Rotary Club Foundation and not to Rotary Del Sol Foundation as in the past.

Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
