On February 27, 2020 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Doug Rowley of the New Mexico Ramp Project spoke about the need for ramps for disabled people in New Mexico. Doug, who is a retired physician who specialized in obstetrics-gynecology, now works with the New Mexico Ramp project. He first learned about this project when he was involved with the Texas Ramp project. New Mexico's project is an offshoot of the Texas one.
Doug told us that they are working in 8 Counties in New Mexico. There is a tremendous need for ramps. Members were surprised to learn that there is a need for 70,000 ramps in New Mexico. The work to build the ramps is done by volunteers. Money that the project collects goes to buy materials. It costs on average $5740 for materials for a ramp.
