This week in Rotary

Thursday's Regular Meeting  on January 3, 2019 featured two Del Sol Rotarians leading a Club Assembly discussion of important issues for the Club.

Past President and PDG Doreen Kelsey gave an interesting presentation on the RI Foundation and the Rotary Del Sol Foundation. She explained the differences between these two charitable Foundations and how each is important. Doreen reminded Club Members how easy it is to be a sustaining member of the RI Foundation every year which is one of the Club's goals for every member.  Less than $2 a week gets it done and money can be deducted monthly or quarterly from a members checking account.

Doreen also presented Paul Harris Fellow Pins to two members, Herman Haase and Dan Wilkinson.

President Dacia Card then led a further discussion on the future of the Governors Ball and presented several ideas which have emerged in the last week. One idea was that all prior charity recipients during the 16 year history of the Governors Ball be invited to the 2020 Ball. PDG Kit Turpen suggested that the Club be careful in vetting proposed Charity beneficiaries to make sure that the selected charities are fully committed to supporting the Governors Ball.

Auction Chair Brad Ekhoff said it is time to really focus on getting auction items for this years ball and described the items the Committee is preferring.  He also asked for volunteers for the committee and 8 members stepped forward to help.

Ron Hensley and Tony Pino also reported on the status of this years Ball.

Service Chair Chris Van Dyck reported that the East Mountain Interact Club Sock Drive was a big success with a large number of Socks contributed.  He also announced a Service Project for January 19 and 20 at Watermelon Mountain Ranch.  Volunteers can sign up for their preferred shift by clicking on the preferred date in the Events Calendar on the right side of the Home Page.

Beans and Rice Chair Tom Cullen reported on that project and suggested we have a meeting with the Roadway Food Pantry to work on that effort.

Satellite Chairs Meredith Eisenberg and Kelli Muwumba  have announced  the first Satellite Meeting of the year on January 7, 2019  at 5:15 PM at Nexus Brewery. President Dacia Card will present a progress report on Club Goals for the year and how the Satellite Group can help achieve the Club's Goals.

Tony Pino reminded all members of the next Governors Ball Committee Meeting on January 14, 2019 at 5:30 PM at Nexus Brewery.  Ron Hensley reminded Members that this is the time to really Ramp Things Up for the Ball and that all members are invited to attend the meeting.

The Regular Thursday meeting on January 10 at Meals on Wheels will feature Andrew Garrison, President and CEO, of BodyFacts Wellness Services who will speak on Starting The New Year Off Healthy.
