This week in Rotary
On December 6 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Explora Museum representatives Kristin Leigh and Joe Hastings  were the Guest Speakers. They spoke about "Cradle to Career STEM Learning", a new Explora program.  STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  The program emphasizes early learning for children in STEM subjects with a focus on preparing them for the Hi-tech jobs of the future. They spoke about the new Explora-Workforce Development Center STEM learning partnership.

The new program has a real job emphasis.

Explore is a  501-C-3 Public-Private partnership. The Museum receives 325,000 visitors a year.

Also at last Thursday's Meeting Tom Cullen announced that contributions to Beans and Rice that day would be matched by an  anonymous donor.  Many Del Sol Rotarians were seen handing checks to Tom for Beans and Rice.  Tom told us that 15% of Albuquerque residents experience food insecurity, which means that they are uncertain about their ability to get enough food.

This evening from 5:00PM to 9:00PM the Del Sol Holiday Party will be hosted by Santa Ana Resort and Casino at no charge to members and guests other than adult beverages.  There are 75 Del Sol Rotarians and guests signed up. Many thanks to the Management and Staff of Santa Ana for their generosity.

The Regular Thursday meeting on December 13 at Meals on Wheels will feature a Club Assembly presided over by President Dacia Card.  Among items up for discussion will be a presentation by Dacia and Governors Ball Chairs Tony Pino and Ron Hensley on the issue of whether changes should be made in the distribution of proceeds from the 2020 Governors Ball to help us reach our 2020 Goal.

Members will receive a Memorandum of possible changes to review prior to the December 13, 2018 meeting.  The RDS Board wants to have the input of the Membership as to what they desire on this important issue.  So, lets have a great turnout to hear this presentation and have members give their input.  For members who can't attend, the Memorandum cover email will provide a procedure for them to select their preference by email.  Hopefully we can get a clear idea of member sentiment so the Board can take action at the December 18 Board Meeting.

There is no Governors Ball General Meeting this month.

The East Mountain Interact Club Sock Drive is still in progress so please bring new clean  socks to any Regular or Satellite Meeting this month.  Any size will do.

Jeff Weinrach and Steve Reynolds will host a New Member Orientation Thursday, December 13, starting at 5:30 PM at Jimmy's Cafe. This meeting is for new or recent transferred Members.

Remember, sponsorship packets are now available for Governors Ball.  All members are requested to obtain sponsors to make this a Great Governors Ball.

Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
