Club Happenings

1.  Club Meeting Updates

This past Thursday, our special guest presenter was Dr. Meghan Brett, UNM Hospital Epidemiologist, who provided an extremely informative Polio update.  All Happy Bux collected during the meeting will be donated to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus fund to eradicate polio.  And our Rotarian of the Day was the incomparable Robert Brown!

This Tuesday, we'll be back at Nexus Brewery (as well as also on Zoom), and our special guest will be past member Dick Wilkinson, who will provide us an update on his various ventures including in cyber security and cannabis.

This Thursday, we'll be having a table (and zoom) discussion on how the Club is doing and what we can do to improve.  Feedback/improvement is a theme for this Rotary year, and your feedback is extremely important, so please attend with your thinking caps on!

2.  Governors Charity Ball Update - continued focus on Committee participation and urgent action items

As we did last week, I'll be sending out a separate e-mail to the Club members with an updated Governors Charity Ball roster.  If your name is shown and is placed incorrectly, please let me know.  If your name is not shown, please contact Jeff by phone/text (1-505-400-1403) or by e-mail (jweinrach5520@nmia.com) as I haven't had the opportunity to speak with each of you individually.

While we're filling out the Committee rosters, we're focusing on finalizing our theme logo ("Derby Day") and updating our website and forms.

3.  Boy Scout Troop 285 and Cub Scout Pack 442

This past week, with both Club member and Board approval, we chartered Boy Scout Troop 285 (https://sites.google.com/site/troop285alb/?pli=1) and Club Scout Pack 442!  Thanks to everyone who helped us through the process including Mark Abramson and Dean Constantine, who reviewed the documentation, and Kit Turpen, who agreed to serve as the Chartered Organization Representative (basically, the primary Point of Contact).  While we are doing everything we can to maintain our Interact Club at East Mountain High School, this provides us with an additional excellent opportunity to work with the youth in our community!

4. Upcoming Birthdays and other dates to celebrate, support each other, etc.

December Birthdays!

Mitch Selking - December 29th

Bruce Shaffer - December 31st

A reminder that Robert Brown will be reaching out to you if your birthday is not listed on our website.  If you have any important reasons to celebrate other than birthdays (anniversaries, birth of a child or grandchild, etc.) or reasons for your fellow Club members to support you, pray for you, help you (e.g., loss of a loved one), please let President Jeff know and he will make sure that the Club is notified and that we can respond accordingly.  We are all in this together!

5. Don Chalmers Memorial Grant

Updated information for next year's grants is available on our Club website home page.  Please consider whom you would nominate so we can have ample candidates when we start our vetting process.

Rotary Happenings

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month, a perfect time to reinforce our efforts to eradicate polio (including by donating to the PolioPlus Fund this coming Thursday during our Club Meeting).
