DeeVonda Batres, VP New Mexico Bank and Trust, spoke to the club. She said her Navaho name means "Little Girl." She's been in and out of the banking industry for 21 years starting out as a drive thru teller. She spent time in the Dept. of Interior as a clerk traveling across the US and learned how different tribes handled money. Sometimes they had income from oil/gas, mineral rights, water rights, agricultural land leases, etc. After her second child, she returned to commercial banking/real estate. Banking is all about relationships. She was the first New Mexican to receive the CREW scholarship. She chairs the bank's mentoring program.
