This week in Rotary
This was a very busy week for Rotary Del Sol Members.

On Tuesday, October 19, the Satellite Group, presided over by President-Elect Jeff Weinrach, held its regular meeting at Nexus Brewery and on ZOOM featuring Donna Pedace from the Del Norte Club who is District chair of the Rotary Friendship Exchange.  Donna spoke about that program which is very important to Rotarians .  Rotarians from around the world come into our community and are hosted for several days in the homes of local Rotarians.  It is an opportunity for fellowship and understanding between Rotarians from different countries and cultures.

On Thursday, October 21 at the Morning Meeting at Jimmy's Cafe and on ZOOM, Carie Robin Brunder from Zia Strategies was the speaker on the subject of the New Mexico United Stadium referendum which will be on the November 2, 2021 ballot.

Carie presented some facts about the proposal which were previously unknown to Del Sol Members. Specifically:

1.  The United cannot continue to play at Isotopes Park due to parking constraints between UNM, the Isotopes and the United.  Also the League will not allow the team to continue playing there due to safety issues for the players in playing on a temporary surface covering the baseball diamond.
2.  This would be the first stadium in the country that would be owned and permitted by the City only after there is a written agreement between the City and the neighboring community covering community issues such as traffic, noise and parking.
3.  This would be a City facility which could be used for concerts and other community vents.

It was a very interesting presentation on a subject that has aroused considerable community debate both for and against the stadium.

Also at the Thursday Meeting Jennifer Huffaker was inducted as our newest member.  Jennifer is editor of two Cathoiic periodicals in Albuquerque.

On Saturday, October 23 an Octoberfest Freeloaders was held at the home of Herman and Shelly Haase in Placitas.  Del Sol Rotarians and guests gathered for an evening of food, fun and fellowship.  Freeloaders is a long standing tradition of Del Sol.  The host provides the main course and other members bring side dishes and beverages.  Children are welcome. Past President Ed Robertson is chair of the Free Loader committee this year.

On Thursday, October 28, John Trevor, former editorial cartoonist for the Albuquerque Journal will be the guest speaker at he morning meeting.  He will be discussing his new book which features his work as a cartoonist.  John will also be selling his book and autographing those books for Del Sol Rotarians.  So come on out and get your own personalized copy of Albuquerque memorabilia.  It promises to be a fun meeting.

"Paints for Polio" is scheduled for November 2 at 6:00PM at Brew Lab 101 in Rio Rancho.  Last years was a great success in raising funds for Rotary's  Mission to eradicate Polio Worldwide.  President Brad Ekhoff is chairing this years event and will have more details to share at the Thursday morning meeting.

Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
