This week in Rotary
On July 13, 2020 at theSatellite ZOOM meetingTim Parker spoke on the problem of Human Trafficking.  Tim works together with the NM Attorney General on this issue.  He said New Mexico has the 9th highest rate of Human Trafficking in the nation.  Tim sad that everywhere that there is an Interstate with a long haul truck route there is Human Trafficking.  
 
 
Tim said that Rotarians and Rotary Clubs can be a force for good in combatting this practice.  He said that there is a Rotary EClub that works on this issue.
 
At the same meeting it was announced that Dave Simon and Chris Glidden had submitted an application for a Covid 19 Disaster Grant which has been awarded in the amount of $25,000 to aid NewMexico Pueblos effected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.  This is the first such grant awarded in New Mexico. 
Paula Paul, a much published novelist, spoke on the art and mechanics of being an author.  She was very humorous and told how her Great Grandfather was a bank robber. She has written 36 novels, the latest one on the Eugenics Movement.  Mostly she writes mysteries.  
 
Tony Pino presented a plan to do a Joint Venture with the Albuquerque Downtown Club on next years Governors Charity Ball. President Dacia will be sending out a description of alternative plans for future Governors Balls  including the Joint Venture Plan, and there  will be a vote of the membership this next week so we can get a determination of how to proceed in the future.  Please pay special attention to the material you receive and plan to vote at the Satellite Meeting tomorrow, the Regular meeting Thursday or online if unable to attend and vote in person.
 
Tomorrow at 5:15 pm at Nexus Brewery, the Satellite Meeting will feature Angela Spanbauer as speaker.  She will discuss her project to help people in Haiti obtain Dental treatment.
 
The Regular Thursday meeting on October 25 at Meals on Wheels will feature Donna Pedace of the Del Norte Club speaking on the Rotary Friendship Exchange.  We also plan on inducting our newest member Dr. Mark Kropp.  With Mark's induction Del Sol will achieve its Membership Goal for this year of 64 Active members.  
 
Membership Chair Barrie Segall reminds all Del Sol Rotarians of the contest June, July and August to see who can bring the most guests.  Guests are potential members and will help us meet next years Membership Goal. Prizes will be awarded.
