On June 13 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, David Gutzler, a Professor at UNM was the guest speaker on the subject of Meteorology-Climate Change. He described how Elephant Butte Reservoir was down to only 6% of capacity in January, 2019 as the result of severe drought.  Fortunately, this last winter saw higher than average snow-pack which has resulted in improvement in flows along the Rio Grande and other state rivers.  Elephant Butte is now up to 25% capacity.  He said that while precipitation is variable, the overall trend due to Global warming is for hotter and dryer conditions.  Predictions are that over time the Rio Grande will decline by 25%.  He explained that the Rio Grande is crucial for reservoir supplies and agriculture.

 

Yesterday evening, James and Wendy Morrison hosted Freeloaders at their home in Albuquerque.  17 Del Sol Rotarians and their guests attended and had a great time feasting on Barbecue and side dishes.  It was a bittersweet evening because James and Wendy are moving to Point Loma, California very soon and they will be missed.

 

Tomorrow, June 17, 2019 at the Satellite Meeting at Nexus Brewery, the speaker for the second session of the mastermind series is Chantay Jennings of Virtual Partners Plus.  Chantay has started a program to train people for part-time jobs as virtual assistants.   

 

Tuesday, June 18 is the RDS Board Meeting at 7:00AM at Jimmy's Cafe. All members are invited to attend especially Red Badge members who need to attend a Board Meeting in order to attain Blue Badge status.

On June 26, 2019 at 6:00PM Dave and Ann Simon will host an informal dinner honoring outgoing President Dacia Card and the 2018-2019 Board at their home.  Cost per person is estimated to be $15.  Members can sign up by clicking the event in the Events Calendar.  More details to follow shortly.

 

July 4th is the date for Pancakes on the Plaza in Santa Fe.  Please click the event in the events calendar to register so Tom Cullen knows how large a bus to provide for transportation.  This is a great event and members always enjoy it.
