Club Happenings

1.  This past Thursday, we heard a very interesting presentation from Lucy Winn, 2022 American Honey Queen (she was on zoom so I didn't take any pictures).  And our Rotarian of the Day was new Blue Badge recipient (along with Ted Schmidt), Cindy Chavez!  Cindy's story is a very interesting one, and she is an outstanding member of our Club!

2.  On Friday, a number of us had dinner at M'tucci's in Nob Hill and then thoroughly enjoyed White Christmas at the Rodey Theater with our very own Kit and Toni Turpen!  We couldn't take pictures during the production, so here's a shot from the program.  Kit and Toni, and the whole ensemble, were outstanding!

3. Upcoming Club Activities!

Christmas Party/Freeloaders on December 10th!

Jennifer and Bryan Huffaker have graciously offered to host our Rotary del Sol Freeloaders/Christmas party this Saturday night December 10th at 6:00 PM (11820 Anaheim Ave., NE).

The main courses will be smoked turkey and ham. Jennifer and Bryan will also provide water and regular drinks, but feel free to bring additional adult beverages.

Please coordinate directly with Jennifer on which appetizers, salads, side dishes and desserts you would like to bring.  Jennifer's cell/text number is 505-401-2021 and her email is jenniferhuffaker@gmail.com.

We know we will have at least one of our Rotary Wranglers in attendance who can lead us in singing some of our favorite Christmas carols. We hope there will be a few more!

A fun Christmas activity will be a White Elephant gift exchange where each individual (or you can do it as a couple) brings a wrapped gift and then draws for a number to pick a gift or steal one that has been opened previously. The theme is “Past Treasures.” So nothing new. These gifts can be inexpensive or items that you may have lying around the house. Gag gifts that usually get a lot of laughs.

Please contact Jennifer as early as possible so we can get a good idea of attendance.

These parties are always a lot of fun, so please consider bringing a potential member!

Club Meetings

On Tuesday, our Twilight Meeting will be zoom only as Nexus Brewery has a function that evening.  It will be a Governors Charity Ball meeting and we'll have members of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque joining us.  The Zoom login info is in the website calendar.  Please try to attend if you intend to help out with the Charity ball this year.

Our special guest this Thursday will be Amy Kindrick, with El Ranchito de Los Ninos, a Don Chalmers Memorial Grant Recipient.

4. Upcoming Birthdays and other dates to celebrate, support each other, etc.

December Birthdays!

Mitch Selking - December 29th

Bruce Shaffer - December 31st

Roberrt Brown will be reaching out to you if your birthday is not listed on our website.  If you have any important reasons to celebrate other than birthdays (anniversaries, birth of a child or grandchild, etc.) or reasons for your fellow Club members to support you, pray for you, help you (e.g., loss of a loved one), please let President Jeff know and he will make sure that the Club is notified and that we can respond accordingly.  We are all in this together!

5. Updated Don Chalmers Memorial Grant Information is available on our Club website home page.  Please check it out and contact Club Foundation Chair Dave Seely or Club President Jeff Weinrach if you have any questions.

Rotary Happenings

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month, a perfect time to reinforce our efforts to eradicate polio.

District Happenings

1.  District Governor John Drusedum's blood drive challenge is still in effect through January 31st.  The goal is a total of 1000 units collected ("1000 Pints of Life").  Last year, the District gave out four Paul Harris Awards, and will do it again this year for the clubs with most pints donated.  More information on the Blood Drive Challenge can be found here:  documents/en-us/d1f076f4-1ea7-421c-abaa-df7d0e043a7d/1).
