This week in Rotary
On December 12 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Annemarie Henton, Albuquerque Economic Development and Alexis Tappan from AKT Communications were the speakers on the topic "Stop Bagging and Start Bragging".  The focus of their talk was that Albuquerque people need to start talking about all the positive things about our city and stop talking about the negatives.  For example Albuquerque has been rated the "Most Interesting Midsize City in America".  We are experiencing growth  and the Brain Drain is over.  Companies like Facebook and Netflix are expanding their operations here and Facebook has purchased 400  more acres for growth.
Then there is the weather and the fantastic scenery.  ABQ Economic Development helps local companies expand and recruits new companies.  It was an inspiring and enlightening presentation.
Today at 5:00 PM Dave and Ann Simon are hosting the RDS Holiday Party in their home in Los Ranchos.  The Rotary Wranglers will lead singing of Carols.
Tomorrow at 5:15 at Nexus Brewery the Satellite Group will hold a business meeting to discuss service projects for the second half of the Rotary year.  All are welcome to have a beer and discuss Service.
The RDS Board will have their December Meeting Tuesday, December 17 at Jimmy's Cafe.  Among items on the agenda will be a further discussion of meeting location and breakfast meal costs.  We will also discuss proposed bylaws changes.  Again,  all members are invited to attend.
Thursday, December 19 at 7:00AM at Meals on Wheels is the last Regular Thursday Meeting of  the year.  We will present a gratuity to the Meals on Wheels Staff and have some good old fashioned Rotary Del Sol Fellowship.  Come on out and wish all your fellow Rotarians a Happy and Peaceful Holiday season.  President-Elect Ed Robertson may also present the slate of officers for the 2020-2021 Rotary Year for a vote of the members.  Also remember to bring Beans and Rice.
December 28 is the first day of our newest service project Maintaining Medians at 4 medians in Albuquerque.  Please sign up on the website if you can work on that day.
Finally, there will be a Satellite Meeting at Nexus Brewery on December 30 which will be the last Rotary Del Sol event for the 2019 year.  There will not be a Regular morning meeting on December 26 or January 2 due to the Holiday Season.
As this will be the last newsletter of the year, please let me personally wish everyone of you a Merry, Happy and Blessed Holiday Season.  I hope that you and your families enjoy quality time together and that we all rejoice in the opportunities we have for service as Rotarians.
Alexis Tappan of AKT Communications Speaking at December 12 Meeting
