On March 17 at the at the Morning Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians, Danny Gonzalez,  Head Football Coach at UNM was the featured speaker.  Coach was previously an assistant coach at San Diego  State and Defensive Coordinator at Arizona State.

 

He told us some interesting background about the football program at UNM especially it t was during the Covid Year where the team had to relocate to a hotel in Las Vegas.  Coach said that experience actually brought the team closer together.  

 

Currently there are 85 athlete scholarship students in the program.  They add 25 new scholarship students each year.  It was interesting to find out that of those 25 new entrants each year, 17 of them usually stay in the Albuquerque area and make their home and careers here.  

 

Coach said that when he arrived here he knew that this was a rebuilding experience and that he believes it will take 5 years for the team to reach a conference championship.  He also explained some interesting facts on how the program is financed including money received through the Mountain West conference.  

 

Last Tuesday the RDS Board had its regular March meeting at Jimmy's Cafe and on ZOOM.  Also  on that day, member Chris Glidden was the featured speaker at the Satellite meeting at Nexus Brewery and ZOOM. Best wishes to Christine as she leaves for her two month sojourn to Nepal to help the Women 2 Be program that Rotary Del Sol supports there.

 

This Thursday at 7:00AM at Jimmy's Cafe and on ZOOM the Morning Meeting for all Del Sol Rotarians will feature Twuana Raupp with Loving Thunder Therapeutic Riding.  

 

Members are reminded that due to the District Convention at Isleta Resort and Casino there will be no Morning Meeting on April 7.  Instead members are requested to attend the District All-Club Luncheon on April 8 at Noon at Isleta.  The Club Board is paying for two tables and there are still 11 spots unreserved at those tables.  Members can sign up by clicking on the All Club Luncheon on the Events Calendar on the Home page or by emailing Herman Haase at haaseh@gmail.com.

 

Members are also reminded to get their table reservations for the April 23 Charity Ball registered on the Rotary Charity Ball website.  Each guest needs to be registered individually.  Also please get your Auction items in to Nicosha Schedlbauer and sponsorships to Willie Edwards.
