On March 7, 2020 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Jonathan Chambliss, an architect and Executive Director of the New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority, was the speaker. He spoke about efforts the State is making to provide equity in the apportionment of State Capital Improvement Development Funds in the construction of public schools in New Mexico. The Authority was created in response to a law suit that challenged the way school construction funds were allocated. The Authority since 2004 divides up available construction funds in compliance with standards and guidelines created by the Authority. The Authority serves over 307000 students in 89 School Districts in the State. They have awarded over $2.5 Billion since 2004 and will award $190 Million this year.
Jonathan said the Authority provides a lot of project management services to Districts involved in construction projects.
Also at the Thursday meeting, Vicki Turpen did the Rotary Minute on the importance of books in young people's lives.
This week there will be no Satellite Meeting but there will be one next Monday, March 16. The speaker will be Rebecca Cavalier, Film Coordinator with the Albuquerque Film Office.
Thursday's Regular morning meeting on March 12 at 7:00AM at Jimmy's Cafe will feature Roger Linn owner of I9 Sports in Albuquerque speaking on the importance of Youth Sports. This is a very timely and appropriate subject for Rotary Del Sol which has as one of its missions support for children and youth charities.
Let's all remember that Governors Ball is fast approaching. Sponsorships are still needed. Contact Bobby Wallace for more information on those. Auction items are still needed. For more information about those contact Brad Ekhoff or Lance Ellis.
Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
