Club Meetings

Our August 25th Morning Meeting special guest presenter was Ann-Britt Asebol, past Rotary International Director and Member of the Swedish Parliament, who spoke about Rotary Peace Programs!  We also presented a second Rotary Charity Ball check to Maralyn Beck, Executive Director of the New Mexico Child First Network (picture here with its Charity Ball Sponsor Nicosha Schedlbauer and her beautiful daughter as well as Rotary Charity Ball Chair Tony Pino)!  It was a great Club meeting!

If you have any suggestions for upcoming speakers and/or programs, please provide the information through the link below.

Club Happenings

1. On September 8th, we'll be having a special Club Assembly focused on The Rotary Foundation and the Del Sol Foundation.  We are coordinating with our first Del Sol Foundation grant recipients for checks to be presented while honoring past Club President and one of the key members who drove us to achieve $1,000,000 in our permanent fund, Don Chalmers!  We'll also have presentations on our Paul Harris Fellow program as well as updates on our District and Global grant efforts.

2.  Upcoming Birthdays!

Bill Stewart - August 28th (Happy Birthday, Bill!)

Jeff Faulwell - September 4th

Bill Rothweiler - September 10th

Jeff Weinrach - September 20th

Chris Van Dyck - September 22nd

Mark Abramson - September 26th

If your birthday is during late August or September and it's not listed, please let President Jeff know so he can update the Club website and so we can celebrate with you.

3.  District Governor John Drusedum will be our special guest presenter on September 22.  John is from Roswell, and he is a great District Governor and an even better person.  Please join us 9/22 for what I'm sure will be a wonderful program.

4.  This Tuesday, August 30th, we are having a fund-raiser to support our next Nepal Global Grant.  Christine Glidden has arranged this with the Kolache Factory for 100% of its sales on the 30th to be contributed to our Global Grant fund.  The Nepal Global Grants that we have supported previously have been extremely successful and have been publicized not just within our Rotary District but nationally and globally.  You will need to bring a copy of the flyer below to the Kolache Factory. Please consider joining us on 8/30 and invite your friends, coworkers, and family!

5.  Hola a todos, Sara from DEI Corner over here!

Last time I asked you to reflect deeper on what “Diversity” entails in your mind, in your own life experience. There are all kinds of “diversities” in social settings, the list could potentially be infinite.  Let's degloss, a little bit, the diversity within an individual. Important to note that there is individual diversity and group diversity as well.

Commonly, the concept that follows when the word diversity is brought to the table is: race. And that truly is a great start. Race is a part of internal diversity, something that someone is born with, it was not chosen by themselves and, like their age or national origin, it is impossible to change. More often than not race influences the external diversity that an individual relates to: education, religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, life experiences, etc. as well as a person's worldview, e.g., moral compass, political beliefs.

Have you ever been in a problem-solving situation with a group and someone came up with an excellent solution because of a life experience that you personally would have never been exposed to? Yay, diversity! Now, I encourage you to think about the following questions. How are we to learn about individuals and the life richness they bring to the table (i.e., to our Rotary Club)? How are we to attract the plethora of diversity (and the associated richness of ideas) out there to our Rotary Club?

6.  Reminder:  New Venmo is up and running for our Club Account (to pay dues, happy bux, lucky bux) - "@RotaryDelSol30", and it will show up as Herman Haase.  If you're set up using the old Club Account in Venmo, please change it.  The Club Foundation account ("@R-otaryDelSolFoundation") is staying the same.

7.  Rotary Del Sol is Social!

Rotary Happenings

August is Membership and New Club Development Month.  We're always looking for outstanding people to join our merry band, so be on the lookout!

District Happenings

1.  District Governor John Drusedum has established a District-wide Blood Drive Challenge from now through January 31st.  The goal is a total of 1000 units collected ("1000 Pints of Life").  Last year, the District gave out four Paul Harris Awards, and will do it again this year for the clubs with most pints donated.  More information on the Blood Drive Challenge can be found here:  documents/en-us/d1f076f4-1ea7-421c-abaa-df7d0e043a7d/1).

3.  The Bi-District Conference (collaborations between our District 5520 and our neighbor District in Mexico (District 4110) this past weekend in El Paso was a smashing success.  Christine Glidden and Jeff Weinrach attended on behalf of our Club and received pledges to support our Nepal Global grant, as well as pledged to support several projects both in District 5520 and District 4110.  More to come on this next week!

Please feel free to call, text, or e-mail President Jeff (1-505-400-1403, jweinrach5520@nmia.com) if you have any feedback or suggestions for future Bulletin content or if you have any feedback or questions about any aspect of our Club.
