Club Happenings

1.  Club Meeting Updates

This past Thursday, our very special guest presenter was Kristin Leigh with the Explora Science and Children's Museum (one of the Don Chalmers Memorial Grant Recipients) about their Career Pathways Internship Program, which our grant is supporting.  We also conducted the annual meeting for the Del Sol Foundation (Foundation Board Members pictured:  President Dave Seely, Vice President Brian Fisher, Secretary Bill Rothweiler, and Dean Constantine - Bruce Bortner was also in attendance via zoom and is not pictured).

This week, we will have Part 2 of our Membership Assembly series led by Club Membership Committee Chair, Jeff Faulwell, with this session focusing on the very important topic of Member Engagement.

2.  Governors Charity Ball update

Club President Jeff met with Rotary Club of Albuquerque President Mark Goodman this past Friday, and there are some major Governors Charity Ball updates.  Jeff will be communicating the updates with the Club Board today (Sunday), and will be communicating with the full membership over the next few days.

3.  Our next "Retro" Meeting on March 2nd, and Hosts Wanted!

Our next "Retro" meeting (when we'll be visiting Club Members' businesses instead of meeting at Jimmy's) will be March 2nd.  Shirley Anderson has graciously agreed to be one of the hosts, and we need two more.  If you're interested, please contact Bruce Bortner either by email at banjobruce04@yahoo.com or by text at 505-239-1084.

4.  Beans and Rice Reminder - One More Push!

So far, we have raised around $1300 for Beans and Rice.  We're making one final push to reach our goal of $1800, which is how much we raised last year.  If you want to make a donation, you can use Venmo (make payment to HermanHaase@RotaryDelSol30 with the caption "Beans and Rice 2023"), call Treasurer Herman at 1-815-483-8630 to use a credit card, or mail your donation to the Rotary Club of Albuquerque Del Sol, PO Box 93578, Albuquerque, NM  87199-3578.  We have had this partnership with the Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico for many years, and it is one of most important fundraisers.

5. Upcoming Birthdays and other dates to celebrate, support each other, etc.

January Birthdays!

Doreen Kelsey - January 16th

Kent Cravens - January 25th

Greg Hallstrom - January 26th

Brent Melville - January 27th

Lance Ellis - January 31st

6. Don Chalmers Memorial Grant applications due by February 29th!

Applications are now open for our next round of Don Chalmers Memorial Grant applications, and they are due by February 29th.  Updated information for this year's grants including the application is available on our Club website home page.  Please consider whom you would nominate and submit an application so we can have ample candidates when we start our vetting process.

7. Club Board and Foundation Board Updates - new Board members!

We are thrilled to announce two new members of the Club Board starting their terms immediately:  Sergeant-at-Arms Dan Wilkinson and New Generations Committee Chair Jennifer Huffaker!

Also, Ron Hensley will start a three-year term serving on the Del Sol Foundation Board starting this July.

Speaking of member engagement, one of the best ways to increase member engagement is to serve on the Club Board, the Foundation Board, or on any of the Club's Committees. There are always opportunities to serve, especially if you are a relatively new Club member.

Rotary Happenings

January is Vocational Service Month.  Activities such as the "Retro" Meeting that we had earlier this year and will have again on March 2nd is just one example of our focus on Vocational Service.

And here's the theme for this upcoming Rotary year!
