Club Meetings

This past Thursday, our special guest presenter was Club Member Greg Hallstrom, who shared his insights related to Non-Profits/Charities in our area, and who also provided an update on our very exciting Ramps Project!   "Service Above Self" is certainly appropriate as it relates to our Ramp project, and we thank Greg, Phil, Lance, and others for being our fearless leaders!

We are always look for dynamic, engaging speakers, not just locally but anywhere in the world through Zoom.  If you have a guest speaker in mind, please complete the form below, and one of the members of the Program Committee will reach out to them.

Club Happenings

1.  Governors Charity Ball Charity Nominations:  If you are interested in nominating a charity for this year's Ball, please complete and return this form (documents/en-us/f076d214-f645-4a76-9b96-6c01b3927e8a/1) to President Jeff as soon as possible.  If we play our cards right, we can start having presentations about the charities starting on October 27th (the week after the Retro Meetings).

2.  Governors Charity Ball Committees:  Here (documents/en-us/04b6860f-da7b-4a1b-aa93-51c23122eac6/1) are the proposed Committees for this year's event, including the new "Recognition Committee".  The Committees will also include members from the Rotary Club of Albuquerque.  Please consider which Committee or Committees you would be interested in serving on.  We'll check in with you next week to start determining Committee membership.

If you are not able to open either of the above files, Jeff will be sending out a blast e-mail reminder this afternoon and will include both files as attachments.

3.  Retro Meetings on October 20th (sign-up is required):  On October 20th in lieu of our regular Thursday morning meeting at Jimmy's, we'll be meeting at three different locations as part of our focus on Vocational Service:  Berger Briggs (Host - Kit Turpen), Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors (Host - Kent Cravens), and the Albuquerque BioPark (Host - Dave Simon).  Registration is required to make sure we have an accurate attendance count.  In order to register, you must be able to log in to the website.  If you don't have your username and password, contact President Jeff and he will register you.  You should also contact Secretary Meredith and she will help you with your username and password. This is first come first serve, so please register as soon as you can.

4.  World Polio Day Fund-Raiser and Commemoration Event on Friday, October 21st

We will be having a very special event to commemorate World Polio Day, which is October 24th.  On Friday, starting at 5:30pm, Kit and Toni Turpen will be hosting a fun and informative event, which will also be used to raise money for the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus fund.  The cost (with all proceeds to be donated to the PolioPlus fund) is $100 per person.  Our Special Guest will be UNM Hospital Epidemiologist, Dr. Meghan Brett, who is one of the state's most renowned experts in Polio and other infectious diseases.  If you and any guests are interested in attending, you will need to register (like with the Retro Meetings).  Here is the link to register (if you don't know your username and password, contact President Jeff and he will handle the registrations for you):

Rotary Happenings

October is Economic and Community Development Month.  Many of our service projects including our ramp builds have positive impact on our Community and on our local economy.  We have ample opportunity to participate in similar projects this year and going forward.

District Happenings

1.  District Governor John Drusedum's blood drive challenge is still in effect through January 31st.  The goal is a total of 1000 units collected ("1000 Pints of Life").  Last year, the District gave out four Paul Harris Awards, and will do it again this year for the clubs with most pints donated.  More information on the Blood Drive Challenge can be found here:  documents/en-us/d1f076f4-1ea7-421c-abaa-df7d0e043a7d/1).

2.  The District will be conducting the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) - Part 1 on October 15th.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about every aspect of Rotary - great for any Rotarian including members aspiring to Rotary Leadership and also for new members.  A number of our members have been involved in RLI, both as facilitators and as participants/graduates since its inception including Bruce Bortner, Bill Rothweiler, Bobby Wallace, and many others.  Please consider registering for the event (registration link below)

If you have any questions or are having any problems with the registration, please contact President Jeff.

Central Area Happenings

Our Club is part of the District's Central Area, which includes all the Clubs in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho as well as Clubs in the East Mountains and as far west as Grants and Gallup.  We have set up a website which contains information about what is going on in the Central Area including events that we can support.  Here's the link so you can see what our neighboring Clubs are doing in case you are interested in helping them:

Please feel free to call, text, or e-mail President Jeff (1-505-400-1403, jweinrach5520@nmia.com) if you have any feedback or suggestions for future Bulletin content or if you have any feedback or questions about any aspect of our Club.
