The premier training organization for Air Force special operations and personnel recovery aircrews.
Personnel rescue started in Germany in WWII. Somewhat haphazard in the early days.
Korea saw a more organized approach with the addition of a rescue coordinator.
Vietnam saw the use of A-1A Skyraider, callsign Sandy, to protect the rescue helicopters and the addition of a second helicopter know as Jolly Greens.
Today, we have the rescue triad – a coordinated personnel recovery system consisting of three core weapon systems: the HC-130 (fixed-wing tanker for extended range and refueling), the HH-60 (combat search-and-rescue helicopter for extraction), and Guardian Angels (Pararescuemen, Combat Rescue Officers, and SERE specialists).
